For starter i would recommend blogspot as your first blogging software, blogspot has built-in made widgets that u can actually drag and drop whenever you want it to be placed or what widget should be on the first. As far as i know there are so many available blogging software available in the net like Wordpress, Squidoo, Drupal and so much more. You can change templates easily or get free templates by searching Blogspot templates or blogspot templates on Google, or even make your own XML template on your own. I would actually create a simple guide for you to understand why we choose blogspot as our blogging software. Blogspot i actually handled by biggest search engine called Google.
I'm suggesting what blogging software to be use for starter, but do we all know what is a blog?
